About Me

University of Texas at Austin graduate Justin Craycraft is a Solution Engineer. He is widely regarded as a subject matter expert focussing on Embedded Analytics. He works for Tableau, a Salesforce-owned data visualization software company where he has worked for almost a decade. In 2022, Justin had the honor of being promoted to the role of Distinguished Solution Engineer.

Craycraft boasts over 20 years of combined technical and solution engineering experience delivering impactful solutions and advice to C-suite, senior management, and technical evaluators of Global 2000 and Fortune 500 organizations.

Outside of his work, Craycraft enjoys various hobbies and other interests. This includes cooking bbq, running, working out, archery, bow hunting, and mountain biking. He lives in Dripping Springs with his wife, young daughter, and Australian Shepherd named Buddy.

Responsibilities

Craycraft is a Solution Engineer at the data visualization software company Tableau, where he specializes in Embedded Analytics. Tableau, founded in 2003, is the industry leader in analytics and data visualization.

Tableau's mission is to help people see and understand their data. Tableau's customers range from individuals and nonprofit organizations to government agencies and Fortune 500 companies. Millions worldwide rely on Tableau's advanced analytics capabilities to help inform high-impact, data-driven decisions.

Salesforce owns Tableau. Salesforce is a global leader in cloud-based SaaS. Salesforce provides customer relationship management software, and applications focused on sales, customer service, marketing automation, e-commerce, analytics, and application development. Salesforce acquired Tableau in 2019. Craycraft joined Tableau in 2014 as a Solution Engineer. In 2018, the company promoted him to Principal Solution Engineer. He was promoted to Distinguished Solution Engineer in 2022.

In the Distinguished Solution Engineer role, Craycraft focuses primarily on Embedded Analytics. Embedded Analytics aims to make analyzing data and other business intelligence ubiquitous. That includes unlocking data analysis to users of applications in support of a wide range of use cases ranging from powering analytics for traditional ISVs, buyer and supplier analytics, data monetization, customer experience, and healthcare.

Career

Before joining Tableau, Craycraft spent over a decade at several prominent software companies. These companies include Thoughtworks, Digby, and Perimeter Power.

From 2011 until 2014, Craycraft served as a Solution Engineer at ThoughtWorks, an international leader in software development tools and agile software delivery for high-value, high-risk projects spanning many industries. During his tenure, Craycraft led technical solution engineering strategies and deliverables for many customers, including Macy's, Nike, JP Morgan Chase, Fandango, Expedia, NBC Universal, Ancestry.com, Entertainment Partners, Carfax, and CareerBuilder.

Before joining ThoughtWorks, Craycraft spent a year as a Solution Engineer at Digby. Digby is a leading mobile commerce provider. It also focuses on customer engagement solutions for retailers such as Godiva, Golfsmith, Home Depot, Lilly Pulitzer, and Petco.

Elsewhere, in 2008, Craycraft co-founded Perimeter Power. Perimeter Power is the solution for retail energy professionals. Perimeter Power's platform automates customer management, quote, acquisition, and onboarding processes.

In addition to being a co-founder, Craycraft served as Perimeter Power's Product Manager until 2010. Alongside Tableau, Thoughtworks, Digby, and Perimeter Power, Craycraft has worked for additional software and technology companies, including HRsmart, SigmaFlow, TriActive, Motive, BroadJump, and Trilogy.

Education

Craycraft is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. The University of Texas at Austin was founded in 1883 and is ranked as the #6 best engineering school by US News.

Craycraft holds his Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

Distinguished Solution Engineer Craycraft marked nine years working at Tableau in early 2023. He looks forward to celebrating a decade at Tableau/Salesforce in early 2024.

In 2019, the Solution Engineer spoke at CareForum, a conference for acute, post-acute, and community care professionals. He discussed, at length, the importance of advancing the quality of care via analytics. He also provided an in-depth overview of Tableau visual analytics and examples of how the technology was creating change in the care sector at the time.

Craycraft has presented at Tableau Conference on topics including automation using Tableau REST APIs, embedding using the Tableau JavaScript APIs, data engineering using the 

Tableau Hyper API and how to leverage other Tableau SDKs to automate and scale Tableau's solution.

Charitable Involvement

Craycraft proudly supports numerous charities, nonprofit organizations, and other good causes. Among these charities and nonprofits are various community-focused and volunteer-led initiatives. Craycraft enjoys running and has previously participated in multiple races for charity. He is also a frequent volunteer at his local church.

Personal Life & Interests

Craycraft was born in the midwest and lived on both coasts before moving to Texas to finish high school and, eventually, study engineering at the University of Texas at Austin.

Craycraft now resides with his wife and their family in Dripping Springs, Texas. He and his wife, Sarah, have a young daughter, Jordana. The family also has a seven-year-old Australian Shepherd named Buddy.

Craycraft enjoys many hobbies and other interests outside his work and charitable efforts. These hobbies include cooking bbq, running, working out, archery, bow hunting and mountain biking, and all aspects of technology.
